About Matthew
Where are you from?
Born in Charleston, SC, but I moved a lot in my earliest years as the son of a Naval officer. Eventually we settled in suburban Philadelphia, which I see as home.
Do you have a favorite place in Tacoma?
Ruston Way. It is right on Commencement Bay so I can run along the water or get some food at any number of the restaurants along the water. On certain days you can watch the seals or even see orcas.
Name a class at Puget Sound you are interested in, but haven't taken.
Ethics, Data, and Artificial Intelligence. I studied philosophy as an undergrad and love it. This class combined my passions of philosophy, data and technology. Seriously, how cool does this class sound?
What is a book that has been influential for you?
The Essential 55: An Award-Winning Educator's Rules For Discovering the Successful Student in Every Child. It is a really interesting book about teaching that I read as I finished college and considered a career in teaching. While I decided on a different path, it definitely impacted the way I think about and the importance of education and supporting students.
