More Admission Types

Students who have advanced beyond the levels of instruction available in their secondary school may enroll simultaneously in courses at University of Puget Sound and at their secondary school. Admission is contingent upon an outstanding high school record. Students interested in simultaneous enrollment while in secondary school should submit the Common Application for First-Year Admission, standardized test scores, and recommendations from the secondary school head or principal, the student's college counselor or advisor, and the student's parents or guardians. Students must pay a "per-unit" rate for courses taken at Puget Sound. Students interested in simultaneous enrollment while in secondary school should contact the Office of Admission for more information.

In rare situations, advanced high school students who have not completed graduation requirements – and do not intend to do so – may apply for admission to University of Puget Sound prior to graduation from high school. Students interested in Early Admission should submit all parts of the Common Application for First-Year Admission, standardized test scores, and recommendations from the secondary school head or principal, the student's college counselor or advisor, and the student's parents or guardians. Students interested in Early Admission should contact the Office of Admission for more information.

Students enrolled in their first term post high school graduation (or equivalent) at a regionally accredited college or university may apply for mid-year admission. These students should follow our transfer application process. In addition, they should submit a final high school transcript with graduation date and either official SAT or ACT scores.

Students who have already attained a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution (including Puget Sound) may apply to enroll at Puget Sound for a second baccalaureate degree. Students wishing to earn a second baccalaureate degree must complete a minimum of 8 additional units in residence. These units must be academic and taken for a grade. Students must also complete departmental requirements current as of the date of their post-baccalaureate enrollment. Each additional baccalaureate degree requires 8 more discrete academic, graded units. To apply for a second baccalaureate degree, students must submit:

• Common Application for Transfer Admission, indicating the intent to enroll as a Second Baccalaureate Student in the Member Questions section
• Official transcripts from all previous colleges attended (if the student has previously attended Puget Sound, only transcripts for coursework taken since the last term at Puget Sound must be submitted)
• $65 nonrefundable Application Fee (official fee waivers are acceptable)
• At least one Academic Evaluator recommendation (via the Common Application for Transfer Admission). Follow instructions for requesting a recommender via the “Assign Recommenders” section of the Common Application.
• Official scores of any nontraditional work (including Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) examination scores) may be submitted with the application materials. No credit is given for military experience or CLEP examination scores.

Students who do not intend to pursue a degree, including those wanting to audit courses, may register for classes as non-matriculant students. Students interested in enrolling as non-matriculants must complete a non-matriculant registration agreement form, which may be obtained from the Office of the Registrar.

• Non-matriculants must wait until the first day of classes of the term to register for a class.
• Registration of non-matriculant students is on a space-available basis.
• At the time of registration, non-matriculants must pay for registered course(s) in full, or set up a payment plan with Student Financial Services.
• No more than 3 units taken as a non-matriculant may be applied toward a University of Puget Sound undergraduate degree.

Undergraduate students who formerly attended the university (as regular matriculants) but have not been in attendance for one or more terms (excluding summer session) or whose leaves of absence have expired should contact the Office of the Registrar.

University of Puget Sound seeks to enroll students who share a commitment to academic adventure and community participation while bringing diverse backgrounds and talents to our campus, regardless of citizenship or immigration status.

Students who are undocumented or have Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) status apply the same way that U.S. citizens, permanent residents and eligible noncitizens apply. Learn more about First-Year Admission and Transfer Admission and please note the following:

• Your citizenship status does not impact our review of your application.
• You will not be considered an international student if you live in the United States.
• Proof of citizenship is not required for admission and you do not need a Social Security Number to apply for admission. You can leave that field blank in Common Application.

Undocumented students are eligible for Puget Sound financial aid and scholarships. We assist undocumented students in accessing state and other aid for which they are eligible. Please note the following:

• Applicants are able to request an application fee waiver through the Common Application.
• All students are automatically considered for academic merit scholarships just by applying for admission. Merit scholarships can range up to $33,000 per year. Academic scholarship award amounts stay constant year over year, assuming eligibility criteria is met.
• Undocumented students are not eligible for federal student aid, but can be considered for other sources of need-based assistance.
• Washington state students can submit the WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid) online to be considered for Puget Sound need-based aid and state aid programs.
• Students who live outside Washington state can submit a printed copy of the PDF FAFSA directly to Puget Sound to be considered for Puget Sound need-based aid.
• Private or outside scholarships are a great way to help with college expenses. We encourage students to review the Scholarship Directory for Undocumented Students, which tracks scholarships and fellowships identified by Immigrants Rising and My Undocumented Life that have been open to undocumented students. There are scholarships and fellowships for graduate and undergraduate students. The Higher Ed Immigration Portal has information on fellowships, data, and resources for undocumented students seeking to pursue higher education. The application deadline for the Dream Summer Fellowship created by the UCLA Labor Center’s Dream Resources Center closes each February for the following summer.
