Diversions Café, located on the Wheelock Student Center's main floor, was established in the fall of 1997 and is staffed by university students in conjunction with the University of Puget Sound Dining and Event Services.

What's up at Diversions Café

Diversions Café is a great meeting spot for students to study or socialize over a delicious coffee. During the academic year, we serve close to 1,000 cups a day! Our café is always buzzing with Logger activity.

In July 2021, DES announced our new partnership with Caffé Vita, a Seattle-based company that emphasizes single-origin coffee and a close relationship with the communities that cultivate our wonderful coffee. We are serving organic and directly traded coffees in all our locations across campus.

Currently, we are serving the following Caffe Vita coffee:

HOUSE ESPRESSO

From everywhere, to everywhere, for everything. The Del Sol flagship blend honors coffee’s global history by tracing the plant’s travels over amber oceans--from Ancient Ethiopia to Indonesia, and to the Americas from Europe. It’s a rich and complex story, with praline and dark chocolate plot points. And given our dedication to ethical trading, this history lesson comes with a deep, silky sweet caramel finish.

The Del Sol flagship blend is strong enough for a latte, but sensitive enough for a pour-over. You can’t be all things to all people, but you can drink this rich and complex combo of milk chocolate, caramel, and dark cherry.

ROTATING ESPRESSO

Diversions is proud to once again offer an additional unique coffee experience!  You can now choose our classic Del Sol espresso blend, a perfect balance of coffees designed for milk-based drinks, or you can feel free to try our rotating single-origin option.

Why choose single-origin? Well, coffee is a lot like wine. While producers all over the world use the same species of coffee plant (coffea arabica), the subtle differences in variables like soil composition, rainfall, altitude, weather patterns, and agricultural practices can all have huge effects on how the finished coffee tastes.  This is known as "terroir."

That's the reason why a Costa Rican coffee can taste chocolatey or nutty, while an Ethiopian coffee may be more floral or tea-like.  Drinking coffee from a single-origin gives you the chance to really experience the essence of these coffees and the places they come from.  Talk to your barista about trying the single origin today!

FRENCH ROAST

Caffe Luna, Vita’s French Roast, redefines what a dark roast can be. Toasty but never burnt, this blend brings incredibly layered flavors within a classic dark cup.

This signature French roast blend of Central, South American and Indonesian coffees. Grown at altitudes ranging from 1500-3000 meters. Look for flavors of dark chocolate, almond, and smores.

NOVACELLA DECAF

A blend of Central/South American and Indonesian coffees. Grown at altitudes ranging from 1000-2500 meters. Not to be dismissed, Vita takes great pride in maintaining a full-flavored, quality-focused decaf. Only achievable through the careful selection and layered blending, the Novacella is for those searching for flavor without the buzz.

Novacella decaf is naturally decaffeinated through a method involving ethyl acetate derived from sugar cane. This is not water processed, it’s a naturally occurring chemical derived from sugar cane used to decaffeinate the coffee.

Look for flavors of nutmeg, cocoa powder, candied orange.

ROTATIONAL DRIP

We also offer a rotational medium roast. This allows us to feature single-origin organic, direct trade coffees from the world’s best coffee regions. Occasionally we will feature a blend. Ask your barista what we are featuring today!

ADDITIONAL ITEMS

In addition to freshly brewed coffee and traditional espresso drinks, Diversions café also offers a wide selection of specialty drinks, including Maya Chai, cider, lemonade, and Italian sodas. To complement a drink, the café sells Marsee Bakery pastries, gluten-free and vegan treats from NuFlours, Sunny Valley, and Wow Cookies, as well as in-house, made Grab & Go, and a variety of snacks.

Sustainability Efforts of the Café

Our cafes feature a Cup Karma board at the register where our customers can check off when they bring in their own cup/save a cup. Every 10th customer will be rewarded with a complimentary beverage!

Last year we were able to save over 46,000 plastic/paper cups in our campus cafes. We thank everyone for supporting us in this progressive event.

Our hope and intention is to help our community think about their daily habits and choose to reuse!
