The Theatre Arts department offers hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for real-world work in professional theatre production.

Lighting Lab

Once per week, the theatre department's director of production Kurt Walls leads a lighting lab on stage in the Norton Clapp Theatre. Students get an introduction to the basics of lighting desig as they learn how to care for and repair lighting instruments and hang and focus lighting plots. It's a great opportunity for students to get on-the-job training in theatrical lighting. No registration is required, the class is open to all students.

Set Construction

Puget Sound alumnus Robin Macartney supervises the theatre department's scene shop. In the scene shop, students learn how to interpret and execute design plans, and how to the safely use tools and equipment to erect stunning sets for our mainstage productions. Students can participate in set construction either as volunteers or for paid work-study.

Costume Construction

Mishka Navarre runs the theatre department costume shop, where students learn to read patterns, sew, and construct the beautiful designs that actors wear on stage. Students learn and hone skills that can be practically applied to careers in costuming. Students can work in the costume shop either as volunteers or for paid work-study.
