Add to Calendar 2022-11-03 19:00:00 2022-11-03 21:00:00 Vocal Master Class with Darryl Taylor The School of Music is excited to welcome guest artist Mr. Darryl Taylor to share his extensive expertise in a vocal master class featuring Kim Davenport, collaborative pianist and the following student performers (subject to change): Raine Filbert '23, mezzo-soprano, vocal performance major: Songs for the People (Poetry: Frances Ellen Watkins Harper) – from Miss Wheatley’s Garden (Rosephanye Powell) Larissa Gaulke '24, soprano, vocal performance major: Compensation - from Three Dunbar Poems (Betty Jackson King; Poetry: Laurence Dunbar) Jess Soltero '24, soprano, vocal performance major: Gramercy Park - from Four Love Songs (William Foster McDaniel; Poetry: Sara Teasdale) Liana Greger '24, soprano, vocal performance major: A Song – from Three Songs for Coloratura and Piano, Opus 31 (Robert Owens; Poetry: Paul Laurence Dunbar)  Guest Artist Mr. Darryl Taylor Darryl Taylor leads an  international career highlighted by performances of art song, opera and oratorio with repertoire extending from Bach to Britten, and beyond. He has appeared with orchestras throughout the United States and Europe, with performances noted for their compelling artistry and authority.  Founder of the African American Art Song Alliance, Taylor has debuted numerous works and is a much sought-after lecturer on African-American Art Song. (http://www.darryltaylor.com/) A native of Detroit, Michigan, Taylor holds degrees from the University of Southern California and the University of Michigan. He is a member of Mu Phi Epsilon Music Fraternity, Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honors Society, previously served on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Negro Musicians, the Board of Governors for the University of Michigan School of Music, Theater and Dance, and is on the Board of Directors for Videmus, Inc. Mr. Taylor also will be appearing for a class visit on Nov. 3 from 9:30-10:50 a.m. -- MUS 356, Vocal Pedagogy in the School of Music Room 110.
