Trimble Student Research Fellowship

The Charles Garnet Trimble Fund has funds available to support one Trimble Student Research Fellowship of up to $4,000 each for declared Asian Studies minors or majors in Chinese or Japanese. Asian Studies minors pursuing the Robert Trimble Distinguished Asia Scholar (PDF) designation are especially encouraged to apply. Awards may be used to cover travel costs to Asia, living expenses, and miscellaneous research expenses.

If your research involves human participation of any type – for example, participation in experiments, interviews, or survey completion – then you must provide IRB documentation. Applicants for the Trimble Student Research Fellowship are encouraged to meet with the Asian Studies Director as early as possible to discuss the process of IRB approval.

To apply, please complete the application form below. The deadline for receiving applications for research during the winter break is November 15. The deadline for applications for summer research is Feb 15.

Project Statement

Describe the specific research planned for the period of the grant, explaining the research question, research methodology, and project timeline.

Describe your preparation for carrying out the proposed work, and explain how the research will contribute to your educational goals.

Budget

Please detail your expected direct research expenses such as travel costs, research materials, etc. The purpose of this budget is simply to be sure that the total cost of your project will not exceed the amount of the grant. Your budget need not add up to $4,000.
