Governance

ASUPS governance is divided into the executive, legislative, and judicial branch. The branches work together to facilitate ASUPS services and support ASUPS clubs, media organizations, and programs. ASUPS governance is responsible for advocating for and representing student needs at the institutional level.

The ASUPS President is the primary spokesperson of the organization. They set the broad goals and objectives of the ASUPS Cabinet and determine general executive policies for carrying them out. They also serve as a full voting member of the faculty and staff senates, a non-voting member of the ASUPS Senate, and a non-voting ex-officio student member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees.

The ASUPS Vice President serves as the Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for the internal operations. The Vice President sets policies for the carrying out of ASUPS operations; serves on the President’s Council; serves on the President’s Cabinet; serves as a voting member and the Chair Pro Tempore of the ASUPS Senate; supervises, recommends the use of, and guides the expenditures of all ASUPS funds; supervises all Interoffice Personnel; monitors the entire ASUPS Budget and Sub-budgets and the day-to-day expenditures; presents a monthly published financial statement to the ASUPS Senate; and performs any other such duties as may be delegated by the Constitution, Bylaws, or the ASUPS Senate.

The Executive Branch of ASUPS provides the oversight and management of the organization as a whole. It is comprised of the President, Vice President, Head of Inclusion and Strategic Initiatives, and their executive team members: Director of Business Services; Director of Clubs and Student Interests; Director of Events and Public Relations; and Director of Media and Technology Services. Each executive officer collaborates with departments on campus to assist students, clubs, and organizations while remaining accessible and open to all viewpoints and ideas.

The ASUPS Senate is the legislative body that establishes and reviews all policies, affairs, and activities of ASUPS. It is in charge of finalizing the use of your ASUPS funds. In addition, the ASUPS Senate confirms all appointments made by the Executive branch as well as recognizes student clubs as official ASUPS clubs. Finally, the Senate has the ultimate power to amend the ASUPS budget, Constitution, and Bylaws.
