Dear campus community,
We are writing to address the lockdown that occurred on campus yesterday, Feb. 22. We understand this event caused confusion and disruption.
During yesterday’s protest outside the Susan Resneck Pierce Lecture, some individuals within the protest forced entry into Schneebeck Hall and exhibited disruptive behavior that posed a safety risk to our community. Additionally, protestors attempted to enter multiple buildings on campus. To ensure everyone's well-being, the decision was made to implement a temporary lockdown.
We apologize for any inconvenience the lockdown caused, particularly for those who were unable to access their dorms. We recognize this was unsettling and confusing, especially with the lack of communication. Moving forward, we're taking concrete steps to improve our communication and emergency procedures.
The lockdown was lifted after 30 minutes once the situation was deemed safe. Security Services is currently looking into the incidents that occurred during the protest. We will share any relevant updates with the community as they become available.
Moving forward, we remain committed to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels safe and respected.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at 253.879.3311 or security@pugetsound.edu.
Sincerely,
Security Services
