Rhetoric appears in everyday contexts through popular culture artifacts such as books, comic books, films, TV shows, music, music videos, YouTube videos, TikToks, memes, social media posts, and more. Using rhetorical theories and tools, this class investigates the ways in which rhetoric can be used as a mode of analysis to discover and describe the rhetorical power of popular culture. Students will engage contemporary artifacts through the lens of rhetorical theories at the intersections of fandom and folklore.
