Our emotional experiences and reactions are integral to who we are as a species and as unique individuals. Understanding emotions and the purpose they serve allows us not only to better manage them but to also respond to our environment in a manner that helps us maintain our goals. Understanding emotions can also allow us cultivate empathy, which can serve to foster our social and professional relationships. In this course, we will review the historical, philosophical, and biological underpinnings of emotion, explore social scientific theories and advances in the study of emotions, and apply our knowledge to real world scenarios to gain practice in understanding the role of emotions in the interactions we've felt successful in and in times we've felt our emotions have held us back.
