Do you have a favorite place in Tacoma? Titlow Park. My family and I have lived in the neighborhood for over a decade and I am always amazed that we are such a short walk away from trails in the woods, a beautiful beach, and a view of the Narrows Bridge.
Name a class at Puget Sound you are interested in, but haven’t taken. Alexander Hamilton's America: The Political Economy Behind the Musical. I love Hamilton, and I have a lot to learn about political economy in general.
What is a book that has been influential for you? The New Adolescence: Raising Happy and Successful Teens in an Age of Anxiety and Distraction. I've never been big on parenting books, but I'm all in on this one.
Heidi Huckins comes to Puget Sound from Charles Wright Academy where she was the Director of Instrumental Music for over twenty years. During her time at Charles Wright Ms. Huckins directed three concert bands, the string orchestra, rock orchestra, jazz ensemble and coached countless chamber ensembles for students in grades 6-12. A native New Englander, Ms. Huckins received her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of New Hampshire and her Master of Music in Music Performance from the University of Colorado. She also received a Master of Music in Conducting from the American Band College through Southern Oregon University. Ms. Huckins has worked as a private teacher and clarinet coach for the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association and spent many summers working and performing at the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music in New Hampshire. She enjoys performing contemporary and classic repertoire with the Tacoma Concert Band, and is excited to partner with the faculty of the School of Music to introduce prospective students to the exceptional program at Puget Sound.
