Add to Calendar 2023-02-25 19:28:00 2023-02-25 20:30:00 Symphony Orchestra Pan-Asian Celebration The Symphony Orchestra at University of Puget Sound is pleased to present, "My Sister's Voice: A Pan-Asian Contemporary Music Celebration," conducted by Anna Wittstruck featuring the voices of Saili Oak and Dawn Padula performing pieces by Reena Esmail, Oswald Huỳnh, and Wenbin Lyu. The program includes music by living composers, who bring together Vietnamese, Chinese, South Asian, and Western musical sources and traditions; exploring themes of diaspora, intergenerational memory, history, transcultural experiences, and reflections on exoticism. The program culminates in Esmail's "Meri Sakhi Ki Avaaz (My Sister's Voice)" for orchestra, Hindustani singer (Oak), and Western soprano (Padula). All three composers whose music the orchestra is performing will be in attendance as part of the Society for Composers' Regional Conference, which the School of Music is hosting this year on Feb. 24 and 25. The artists' residency and concert is presented in partnership with Puget Sound's Asian Studies program. The concert is sponsored by the Catharine Gould Chism Fund for the Humanities.
