The Race & Pedagogy Institute and African American Studies, in collaboration with the Museum of Glass and Pierce County Libraries brings to campus: A discussion with Yaa Gyasi, moderated by the Museum Of Glass curator and artist Jabari Owens-Bailey. Following the discussion will be a book signing in Wyatt Atrium. Books will be on sale at the event thanks to the University of Puget Sound bookstore.
Yaa Gyasi is the author of the highly acclaimed debut novel Homegoing and a recipient of the National Book Foundation’s 2016 "5 Under 35" Award. Gyasi was born in Ghana and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. She holds a BA in English from Stanford University and an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where she held a Dean’s Graduate Research Fellowship. Her second novel, Transcendent Kingdom, was published in September 2020.
This event is co-presented by The Museum of Glass, University of Puget Sound’s African American Studies Program and the Race & Pedagogy Institute, and the Pierce County Library Foundation with support from the National Endowment for the Arts Big Read program.
