About the Program
The George J. Mitchell Scholarship Program sponsored by the US-Ireland Alliance was formed in 1998. Named in honor of the former U.S. Senator who served as Chairman of the peace negotiations in Northern Ireland, students are sought who have embodied a deep commitment to public service. Proven intellectual and academic quality of a high standard is the first quality required of applicants, but they will also be required to show a record of leadership, participation in extra-curricular activities, honesty, integrity, excellence fairness, and unselfish service to others, and potential for future leadership and a contribution to society.
Application Deadline
Because an institutional endorsement is required, a campus deadline for the Initial Interest Form is set for May 1st. Students will be expected to then complete the application over the summer with the aid of the Director of the Fellowships Office and the Faculty Designate for the scholarship. A deadline for submission of all materials to the Fellowships Office is September.
