International Programs Mission Statement

Aligned with Puget Sound’s core values and our Leadership for a Changing World strategic plan, the mission of the Office of International Programs (OIP) is to actively promote international and intercultural understanding by facilitating the exchange of people and ideas.

Our vision is to empower members of our campus community to actively engage in the world.

Study Abroad Goals:

  1. To provide opportunities for students to acquire knowledge about subject matter, culture and language, gained through high impact programs and practices
  2. To provide opportunities for students to develop an informed appreciation and deeper understanding of oneself and others
  3. To make study abroad accessible to all students by addressing barriers affecting underrepresented groups

International Student and Scholar Goals:

  1. To provide guidance, support, and advocacy for international students and scholars
  2. To support institutional compliance with regulations related to international students and scholars
  3. To provide support for international students and scholars with their transition to the Puget Sound campus community 

Campus Internationalization Goals:

  1. To support faculty members interested in initiating a new or enhancing an existing international education opportunity
  2. To advocate for increased access to international opportunities
  3. To promote study abroad as a high impact practice
  4. To support the Office of Admissions in increasing our international student enrollment
