The Office of International Programs (OIP) is pleased you’re interested in leading a study abroad program. The following information is meant to explain the process of creating and leading a program at Puget Sound.
Initial Considerations
- Please review the Forum on Education Abroad’s Guide to Leading Short-term Education Abroad Programs as a first step in preparing your program proposal
- Please schedule an appointment with OIP Director, Eowyn Greeno to discuss your interests and to review the application process and timeline
- We highly recommend working with our study abroad partner organizations in developing your program proposal. Our partners can assist you with logistical arrangements like housing and transportation, health and safety resources and emergency response, in addition to providing academic and cultural expertise, contacts, and resources. Our existing partners include these organizations:
Application Deadline: February 1 (every year)
The deadline of February 1 is for faculty wishing to lead a program in the following year or beyond. For example, the deadline of February 1, 2025 is for programs running in Spring, Summer, or Fall 2026. If February 1 falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the application is due by 12:00 pm the Monday immediately following February 1.
- Propose a new faculty-led program
- Renewal of approval for a previously run program
- Chair recommendation form
Who Can Lead a Program
- We welcome proposals from all full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty
- Visiting faculty who will be at the university for a minimum of three years may also propose a program.
- Faculty who plan to have any family members join them during any portion of a study abroad program should review this information.
