This page has been designed especially for current Puget Sound students who are interested in partnering with a new international student, including foreign nationals (non-US citizens) and Third Culture Individuals (TCI).

Listed below are answers to common questions that many Campus Ambassador Program applicants have.

At the beginning of each academic year, the Office of International Programs will select a small group of campus ambassadors to formally participate in the Campus Ambassador Program. Campus ambassadors will introduce themselves to all new international students, both foreign nationals and third culture individuals (TCI), at the fall welcome event during the first week of classes. From here, ambassadors are expected to share contact information and resources, collaborate with other ambassadors, and fully attend (at least two) program events each semester. Additionally, each ambassador is expected to make independent plans to check-in with an assigned international student on a biweekly basis.

Any Puget Sound student who is eager to meet people from other countries and open to different perspectives, values, and ideas can apply. Specific qualifications are as follows:

General requirements

  • Hold a current GPA of 2.0 or above
  • Be enrolled at Puget Sound for the academic year during which you will participate in the program

Successful applicants should demonstrate:

  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • An appreciation for and interest in cultural differences and serving as a bridge builder on campus
  • An interest in having fun and helping international students have fun!
  • Leadership skills to interact positively and encourages the inclusion and involvement of international students
  • The ability to work effectively as a team member with other ambassadors, international students, and OIP staff
  • The ability to make sound, independent judgments and decisions, solve problems, and improvise
  • Willingness to be a role model and uphold university policies and expectations
  • Other relevant qualities including but not limited to enthusiasm, good humor, and open mindedness

The application process for the Campus Ambassador Program takes place once a year during the summer break.

  • Establish contact with students at our fall welcome event
  • Be available as an active resource for international students
  • Collaborate and communicate with other campus ambassadors
  • Participate in required ambassador training/meetings (once per semester)
  • Attend and participate fully in at least 2 events each semester for the entire Campus Ambassador Program (August-May)
  • Maintain regular, biweekly check-ins with one (informally) assigned students and report any need for support or resources to OIP
  • Assist in evaluation of the program to help improve international student resources, communications, and events for future programs
  • Optional and as needed: Assist with assigned Orientation Week activities and events (i.e. Airport Shuttles, Move-in Day Shuttles, International Orientation lunch, etc.

International students, including third culture individuals, bring unique perspectives to the Puget Sound community. Don’t hesitate to ask them about their culture, or ask them to share in a cultural activity with you. For example, you could cook a meal from their home country together, exchange language tips, or participate in a unique cultural celebration. Throughout the program, campus ambassadors are highly encouraged t to share what conversations, activities, and events have a positive impact on themselves and their international peers.
