April 25 – May 14

TACOMA, Wash.University of Puget Sound’s 2016 Senior Show opens Monday, April 25, with an opening reception on April 27, 5–7 p.m., at Kittredge Gallery. This exhibition is the highlight of the year, showcasing graduating senior art students’ thesis work.

The artworks on view offer a lively and engaging opportunity to see various works by these emerging artists.

Each of the nine students has created a body of work that shows their skills and ideas:

Grace Best-Devereux uses hair to question artificial standards of beauty.
Carly Brock paints powerful compositions confronting her father’s death.
Leanne Gan has created an interactive installation of power and marginalization.
Matt Hufford paints portraits that show people beyond identities.
Rachel Kalman closely observes and renders the reflective subjects of her still life works.
Dina Mustakim juxtaposes human figures with motifs and symbols to create an emotional space.
Maddie Peckenpaugh presents a character through her sculpted, printed, and painted artifacts.
Maia Raeder explores the layers of meaning of cloth in art and paints color fields of her subject.
Gaby Yoque tells stories of her past through photographs and prints.

The 2016 Senior Show is a celebration of the students' work and an exhibition of the present and future of visual art.

Kittredge Gallery serves as a teaching tool for the Department of Art and Art History and a cultural resource for both the university and the community, exhibiting work by noted regional and national artists. Exhibits and talks are free and open to the public.
