Dear Members of the Campus Community,

Today is Veterans Day, a time when we honor those who have worn the uniform of the U.S. Armed Forces. As the child of veterans, I can’t help but think of my parents today—the example of service that they embodied and which shaped the person I have become.

Throughout this nation’s history, people have answered the call to protect the United States as members of the Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Navy, Marines, or Space Force, pledging themselves to the defense of the American experiment. Their service and sacrifice remind us that our freedom, security, and democratic way of life often comes at a high cost.

Our region is deeply tied to the military through the presence of Joint Base Lewis-McChord just south of Tacoma, and through the dedication of the many veterans who enrich our campus as students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and trustees. For their patriotism, selfless service, and sense of duty to their country, we are forever grateful.

All are welcome at the veterans’ reception from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Collins Memorial Library, Room 053.

I hope you will all join me in thanking the veterans in our community. We appreciate you and your service.

With gratitude,

Isiaah
