Dear Campus Community,

Thank you for joining me Wednesday whether in person or via zoom for a Town Hall where I shared information and received feedback regarding A Sound Future.

During the meeting, I provided details about the challenges that face our university and reviewed the strategies that I believe best position our institution—its offerings and its resources—for a sound future.  The recommended adaptive, alignment, and foundational strategies of A Sound Future draw from the extensive work of the AAAPR Committee, and I believe these strategies, which were approved by the Board of Trustees in October, will further strengthen and transform the university.

I appreciated the opportunity to speak with you, to share our plan, and to answer questions regarding our path forward.  The Town Hall also provided me an opportunity to learn more about the fear and anxiety that exists among some of our faculty, staff, and students.  Please know that I hear you and understand what you are going through.  Allow me again to remind you that many of your questions centered on decisions that have not been made and we will know more details as we move into the spring term.

As I mentioned in the Town Hall, I commit to you that as we determine the details of A Sound Future, we will continue to engage in prompt and honest dialogue with all campus stakeholders.  If you were unable to join the meeting, please know that we are at the beginning of an ongoing conversation in a collaborative process, including continued consultation and engagement with our shared governance bodies.

I am committed to having ongoing conversations with the campus community, and using multiple means of communication to provide updates for the campus, for parents and families of our students, and for our alumni.  More information about upcoming engagement opportunities will be shared as they are confirmed.  In the meantime, please continue to send your questions and feedback to asoundfuture@pugetsound.edu.  I would also encourage you to regularly visit https://www.pugetsound.edu/sound-future where you will find additional information and updates as they become available.

Thank you for your continued contributions to Puget Sound as we work together to secure the university’s sound future.  I would also like to wish each of you a happy and restful Thanksgiving holiday break and I hope you are able to spend time with those you cherish most.

With care and appreciation,

Isiaah
