Dear Campus Community:

As you may have witnessed, a small group of students set up an encampment on Todd Field today around 1 p.m., following a protest outside Collins Memorial Library.

While I have been clear in my previous messages about the right of students to exercise their rights to free speech and peaceful protest, I have also been resolute in my commitment to protecting the safety and security of our campus and community. We have been in touch with the students involved in this demonstration about their responsibilities as they continue to protest. Any further conversations with the encampment group will seek an outcome that respects both the safe and successful operation of the university and student expression.

As we near the end of the semester, our focus remains on ensuring a successful conclusion for everyone.  We will continue to keep you posted as we have more information. In the meantime, if you have any concerns, please contact Security Services at (253) 879-3311.

Sincerely,

Isiaah Crawford, Ph.D. | President
