Dear Campus Community,
In the spring of 2024, the university submitted our Policies, Regulations, and Financial Review (PRFR) report to our accrediting agency, the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), as part of the Year Six review in a seven-year accreditation cycle. The PRFR report lays out in detail Puget Sound’s governance structures, policies and procedures, and resources that allow the institution to fulfill its mission to provide a life-changing liberal arts education.
I am pleased to report that the commission has accepted our Spring 2024 PRFR report and found Puget Sound to be in compliance with the standards. The evaluating committee also identified areas of improvement, which centered around how we communicate policies and procedures for monitoring student loan programs and how we communicate with students regarding loan repayment obligations; a requirement that we publish financial aid policies and procedures including categories of financial assistance; and that we publish our students’ loan default rate. We are working to resolve these findings before submitting our Evaluation of Institutional Effectiveness (EIE), which will complete our current seven-year evaluation cycle in Spring 2025.
You can find more information about our accreditation process and read the PRFR report on the university’s website. If you have questions about accreditation, please contact Dean of Faculty Affairs Amy Spivey at aspivey@pugetsound.edu.
Please join me in thanking Miriam Chitiga, who has served as interim Accreditation Liaison Officer, the entire Accreditation Review Committee for their diligence in preparing this report, and everyone who supports the accreditation process.
Sincerely,
Isiaah Crawford, Ph.D. | President
