Dear Campus Community:
I am excited to let you know of a new partnership between our university and the Seattle University School of Law that will expand access to immersive legal education and opportunities in the South Sound.
As you may know, the Seattle U School of Law has a rich history rooted in Tacoma, having originally opened its doors in 1972 as the University of Puget Sound School of Law. Seattle U acquired the law school in 1993, and it moved to the Seattle U campus in 1999.
Today, we are deepening our long-standing partnership as Puget Sound becomes a new location in Seattle U Law’s South Sound Hybrid Hub initiative, which also includes UW Tacoma as a partner site. The Hybrid Hub creates pathways for local students to study law through Seattle U’s Flex JD program, become licensed, and eventually practice law – all while staying in their home communities.
The Hybrid Hub programming augments the wide range of Puget Sound majors and courses that provide the foundational skills necessary for law school. Puget Sound students have successfully applied to law school with majors from over a dozen departments, from Politics & Government to Computer Science to Religion. The Hybrid Hub will offer additional programming and experiences that will help Puget Sound’s undergraduate students build their legal knowledge and connections and contribute to the intellectual life of the campus, including public lectures, legal employer gatherings, Seattle U Law alumni receptions, legal career panels, expanded opportunities to engage with the South Sound legal community, and more. We also plan to work with Seattle U Law to develop an accelerated admission program for Puget Sound students interested in enrolling in the SU Law In-Person or Flex JD Programs. The Seattle U School of Law will issue a formal press release about the partnership next week.
We are looking forward to working with Seattle U to foster a vibrant legal community that serves the needs of our region.
Sincerely,
Isiaah Crawford, Ph.D. | President
