The climbing wall, located in the Athletics and Aquatic Center, is a student-operated indoor rock climbing area featuring several bouldering areas as well as two auto belays. New routes are set weekly during the academic year by volunteer routesetters to keep a variety of climbs.

The Climbing Wall is usable by the campus community following an orientation to the wall and a review of safety policies.

There is also an introductory climbing class offered under the Physical Education department for an activity credit that provides a good beginner’s overview of climbing. Classes are offered regularly to ensure that everyone using the facility is able to further their knowledge of wall etiquette, proper belay technique, and other climbing skills.

Climbing Wall Open Staffed Hours

To climb at the wall, you must first complete an orientation with a staff member during our open staff hours. In this orientation, you will be briefed on our policies and procedures at the climbing wall by one of our student staff. Following the orientation, you will sign a liability release and then have access to climb at the wall whenever it is open! An orientation typically takes 10-20 minutes.

If you have already completed an orientation, the open staff hours are also a time that you can borrow climbing shoes and a harness for free!
