OCR for Canvas is a collaborative effort between faculty, departmental administrative assistants, the office of Student Accessibility and Accommodation, and Collins Library to ensure the accessibility of course readings made available to our students via Canvas. OCR (optical character recognition) in documents supports the principles of universal learning design. Running scanned documents through an OCR application is critical for our students who use screen readers or text-to-speech software, and it makes texts searchable for all students.
You may submit requests at any time, both before the semester and throughout the term. Requests ordinarily will be completed in the order that they are received. However, we also ask you to indicate when your students will need access to the materials in the semester. Depending on the volume of requests, we may need to prioritize requests needed earlier in the semester.
