Lecture and Screening by Gregg Groggel ’06

Greg Groggel '06 likes to tell stories, and as the four-time Emmy-winning executive producer of the Netflix hit, "The Redeem Team," he's transfixed an international audience with an up-close account of how America's Olympic basketball team unified and returned to the world arena to reclaim its 2008 Gold medal after a devastating defeat four years earlier. You don't have to be a basketball fan to enjoy Groggel's story of how LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwayne Wade, and Kobe Bryant, met the challenge along with the masterful Mike "Coach K" Krzyzewski.

"Does Studying Ethics Make People More Ethical?" A Talk with Eric Schwitzgebel

Professor Schwitzgebel’s research explores connections between empirical psychology and philosophy of mind, especially the nature of belief, the inaccuracy of our judgments about our stream of conscious experience, and the tenuous relationship between philosophical ethics and actual moral behavior. He is the author of Describing Inner Experience? Proponent Meets Skeptic, with Russell T. Hurlburt, MIT Press (2007); Perplexities of Consciousness, MIT Press (2011); and A Theory of Jerks, and Other Philosophical Misadventures, MIT Press (2019).

Grace Kelly and the UPS Jazz Orchestra

An unequivocal musical prodigy, singer-saxophonist-songwriter-composer and band leader Grace Kelly has rocked the jazz world with sold-out concerts, 14 acclaimed albums and a resume that includes performing at the Hollywood Bowl and as part of the house band for “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” – all before reaching her mid-twenties.

Mini Maestros: Once Upon a String

The Community Music Department partners with Symphony Tacoma to present this concert as part of the Mini Maestros series for children ages 2-8 years old and their families. "Once Upon a String" is a family-friendly, interactive music concert featuring Symphony Tacoma's String Quintet and Shay Ray, emcee.

Travel with the symphony's string quintet to a land far, far away during a fantasy-filled introduction to the instruments in the string family!

Blues Vespers: Rod Cook & Toast

Blues Vespers @ Kilworth is back for its Spring '23 series!  Campus and community members are invited to gather for this 25+ year Tacoma tradition featuring local (and sometimes national!) Blues musicians, some poetry, and a little something to think about.  Hosted by the University Chaplaincy.   The event is free and open to the public; most of our bands have a tip jar to support their gift of time and music.

Violin Master Class with Melissa White

The School of Music is pleased to welcome guest artist Melissa White for a violin master class. Ms. White is a prominent member of the Chicago-based Sphinx Organization and a founding member of the Harlem Quartet, and is a strong advocate for musicians of color and diverse programming.
