Monkeypox (MPV) Information Session for Faculty and Staff

The Zoom session (conducted in meeting format) will focus on public health guidance for fall semester with emphasis on increasing awareness and accurate knowledge about transmission of MPV, and a brief review of COVID-19 prevention/protocols for faculty and staff. Building a World That Includes Disability - Rosemarie Garland-Thomson

What would our world be like if it fully welcomed and included people with disabilities? How could we build that world to share and live in together? Why would that be a better world for all of us? The human variations we think of as disabilities are part of the human condition and have been with us throughout history and across place. From Beethoven to Chuck Close, from Oedipus to William Faulkner, from FDR to Joe Biden, disability is everywhere once we know how to look for it.

Swope Endowed Lecture: Weaving Love and Joy into Our Journeys of Truth and Reconciliation

In this inspiring session, author and artist Monique Gray Smith will share her personal journey of hope and resilience. She will offer readings from her books, including the much-anticipated release of the YA adaptation of Braiding Sweetgrass. A brief exploration of history and the continued impacts on Indigenous families will be shared. Monique will introduce her Cultural Resilience model and strategies for weaving aspects of it into everyday life. Through our time together, we will explore the integral role love and joy have in our various ways of being, working and contributing.

Recycled Planting Party

Join Sustainability Services for a free planting event on Friday, September 9th from 4:00 - 6:30 PM in front of the SUB. You can choose between water propagating a houseplant or planting one in a recycled jar. Soil, gravel for drainage, plants, jars, and shovels will be provided! Learn about environmentalism on campus and in the greater Tacoma community while meeting new people and getting a free plant!
