A Home Run for Logger Student-Athletes

As part of our commitment to fostering a championship culture at Puget Sound, we’re transforming the Logger Baseball Field with modern synthetic turf, ensuring a top-tier playing and practice environment for our dedicated student-athletes. Our current infield is in need of an upgrade. We are grateful for the support of the Ben B. Cheney Foundation, who provided an initial gift to bolster the effort. With their early support came a rallying cry to us and to you: Join the Effort. Build the Dream. Support Logger Baseball by making a gift by December 31, 2023. With your support, we can make Puget Sound a destination for baseball for years to come.

Why Synthetic Turf?

  • Competitive Parity: With synthetic turf, we’ll level the playing field, enhancing our competitiveness by providing a high-quality playing surface that rivals what’s offered at other colleges in the Northwest Conference.
  • Weather Resilience and Reduced Maintenance: Synthetic turf can withstand the Pacific Northwest’s rainy weather and will reduce time and resources currently devoted to maintenance, increasing the amount of time available for games, practices, and skill development.
  • Community Engagement: By elevating the Logger Baseball Field, Puget Sound can strengthen ties with our local Tacoma community, offering more opportunities for partnerships with leagues and semi-professional teams.

Why Your Support Matters

This isn’t just about upgrading a field—it’s an investment in our students and the future of Logger Athletics. Your generosity will:

  • Build a Championship Culture: We’re committed to excellence in both athletics and academics.
  • Celebrate Scholar-Athletes: Our students work tirelessly, both on and off the field, and they deserve the best facilities in order to perform at their peak.
  • Boost Recruitment and Retention: A state-of-the-art field attracts top-tier talent, bringing us regional and national prominence.

Logger Baseball By The Numbers

  • Logger Baseball is on a winning streak! During two back-to-back winning seasons in 2022 and 2023, Coach Jeff Halstead ’00 notched his 100th career win and was inducted into Puget Sound’s Hall of Fame in Fall 2023.
  • Puget Sound baseball players are focused on academics and athletics, boasting an impressive average GPA of 3.3.
  • Our players have earned multiple All-Northwest Conference Honors.
  • Logger Baseball competes in 40 games annually.
  • With a full roster of students and coaches, Logger Baseball is a thriving program with room to grow.
"This historic investment in the Logger Baseball Field will give our talented student-athletes the facility they deserve and help us continue to build a championship culture at Puget Sound."

—Amy Hackett, director of athletics
