Peer advisors are junior and senior Loggers employed by the Office of Academic Advising to support faculty advisors in their efforts to help first-year and transfer students navigate the academic rigor of college life during their first year at Puget Sound.
They are highly knowledgeable peers, trained to guide incoming students on university policies and procedures, are a great resource when selecting courses and exploring possible majors/minors, and are invaluable for help navigating the registration process, They are also a caring fellow Logger to reach out to if you need academic guidance or information about important campus deadlines and events.
Several members of a past team meet to plan their first meetings with their advisees to answer questions and help them make any changes to fall class schedules.
Peer advisors support advisees with important issues, such as:
- Navigating college-level academic expectations and demands
- Effective communication when working with university professors
- Navigating the ins and outs of registration
- Short- and long-term academic planning, including exploring and/or planning a major/minor
- Developing self-advocacy
- Strategies and resources for navigating periods of academic difficulty
- Understanding advising reports, what-if reports, and degree snapshots
