Dear Members of the Campus Community,
Please mark your calendars for the 51st John D. Regester Lecture and reception featuring Professor Lisa Johnson on Thursday, Nov. 16th, at 5 p.m. The event will take place in the Tahoma Room in Thomas Hall.
Professor Johnson, distinguished professor and director of the School of Business and Leadership, will explore the intriguing topic, "The Treachery of Contextualism Or, Representations and Realities in the Language of Law before Roe and after Dobbs." Delving into the post-Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization landscape and its comparison to pre-Roe state statutes, her discussion will explore similarities, significant differences, and surprises.
Professor Johnson's research focuses on how U.S. domestic law shapes the lives of women and delves into law as a power instrument across many contexts, including nonhuman animals, the environment, and individuals outside cultural norms. With 20 years at the university, she serves on the Faculty Advancement Committee and holds various service roles.
This lecture series, established in 1965 in honor of John Regester, serves as a tribute to his profound impact on the university. As a means of honoring faculty members who embody scholarship and intellectual integrity, the series allows the chosen lecturer to address the community on a topic of significant interest.
Following the talk, there will be a reception.
We look forward to your attendance.
