Congratulations on your acceptance to Puget Sound!
After your acceptance and deposit to the university has been confirmed, the Office of International Programs (OIP) will begin to work on your Form I-20 (F-1 students) or Form DS-2019 (J-1 scholars). Next, incoming international students will receive emailed instructions from Emily and/or Eowyn. Here is a brief description of documents that we will request:
- A scan of your Passport ID page
- Your current address and phone number
- Proof of funding
- This is Proof that you have sufficient liquid funds for the first year of your studies at Puget Sound
- Note: “Proof of funds” instructions for non-degree seeking exchange students (J-1) will vary from degree-seeking student (F-1).
- If you are in the U.S. already with legal non-immigrant status:
- A scan of your most recent U.S. Visa
- A scan of your most recent Form I-94
- If transferring from a U.S. high school or college:
- A scan of your most recent Form I-20
Once you have your Form I-20 (or DS-2019 for J Visas), you may start the process of applying for your visa. Please plan ahead and acknowledge that the wait time for visas varies by country. You can look up average visa appointment wait times at on the U.S. Department of State Website.
- Important Note: You may not arrive in the U.S. more than 30 days prior to your program start date listed on your Form I-20. Please notify our office of your planned travel/entry date to the U.S. to ensure immigration compliance.
Transfer Students
If you are transferring to Puget Sound from another U.S. institution, you must contact your current school’s Designated School Official (DSO) to request your SEVIS record be transferred to Puget Sound.
