Prof. Hastings traveled to Guatemala during part of her spring sabbatical in 2018. She first attended two weeks of Spanish classes in Antigua and then was hosted by Innovaciones Medicas to teach four workshops ranging from 2-5 hours on the Rehabilitation of Patients with Spinal Cord Injury. She taught students and clinicians in Quetzaltenango and Guatemala City. While she used an interpreter for the lectures she was able to provide lab cues with her newly acquired Spanish. She did her powerpoint slides in Spanish and left these as a resource at each site. In Guatemala City she provided some co-treatment with local therapists and provided care to patients in El Rosario hosted by George Sisneros of the Ordinary Missionaries.
