No person reporting an animal welfare concern in good-faith will be subject to retaliation according to the Animal Welfare Act and the University of Puget Sound's Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) policies.

The humane care and use of animals is of paramount importance to the University of Puget Sound. Any individual who has specific concerns about the treatment of animals, should report his or her observations to the Chair of the IACUC and/or the Institutional Official (Provost).

You may report your concerns by any of the following methods:

  1. Contact the IACUC Chair at IACUC@pugetsound.edu.
  2. Call or email the Institutional Official (Provost), Drew Kerkhoff: at provost@pugetsound.edu and 253.879.3207.
  3. Send your concerns through campus mail to the IACUC Chair or the Provost (Drew Kerkhoff, "Confidential", Provost Office, Jones 111, CMB #1001)
  4. Report concerns anonymously through the University’s Compliance Helpline: 866.943.5787
  5. Send your concerns through the US postal service to the IACUC Chair (University of Puget Sound; 1500 N. Warner St. #1046; Tacoma, WA 98416) or the Provost (Drew Kerkhoff, "Confidential"; University of Puget Sound; 1500 N. Warner St. #1001; Tacoma, WA 98416)
  6. Contact any IACUC member by any of the above methods. IACUC membership is posted on the IACUC website at the University of Puget Sound.
  7. Reports may be made anonymously or you may include your name. (By including your name an IACUC representative can update you on findings or contact you for clarification if needed).

If possible, please include the following (this information is not required):

  • Did you witness the incident first hand?
  • In which animal facility (building name and room number) did this incident occur?
  • Did the incident occur in a laboratory?
  • Names of personnel involved, if known.
  • Have you reported the incident to anyone else? If so, when and what action was taken?
