Google Workspace is available to Puget Sound students, faculty, and staff. Users can login with their Puget Sound credentials to access apps like Google Drive, Docs, Forms, Sheets and Sites. 

Google Workspace allows communication and document sharing across campus for campus groups, classes, and inter-departmental collaboration. Technology Services recommends accessing Google Workspace Apps using the web interface via an updated browser such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari.

Use Google Calendar to schedule meetings and manage time.

Google Calendar is an essential application for student planning and organization, and it’s available to all users with a Google Workspace for Education account. In addition to the usual calendar functions like setting appointments and reminders, Google Calendar offers a host of powerful collaborative tools as well.

  • Calendars can be embedded on websites
  • Students can subscribe to a “Class Calendar”
  • Professors can set regular appointment slots

Use Google Chat to send instant messages and create virtual spaces.

Google Chat allows you to connect with others across devices and geographical areas.

Use Google Docs to write, edit, and collaborate on documents.

Google Docs is a powerful word processing tool that allows access to your documents and files from any Internet-connected device, along with extensive collaborative features. As it’s similar to Microsoft Word and other word processing tools, most users find Google Docs intuitive and easy to use.

  • Google Docs allows users to share and collaborate on documents in real time.
  • Comments feature facilitates clear and simple feedback for students
  • Revision history provides a detailed view of changes made to the document over time.
  • Google Translate feature allows users to easily translate text directly within the document.

Use your Google Drive to store, share, and collaborate on files. 

Much like a computer has a hard drive full of folders and files, Google Drive is a cloud-based storage system that can be accessed from anywhere, with any device that has Internet access. More importantly, Google Drive connects all of the Google Apps by serving as a central hub for storing and sharing files created with various applications.

  • Google Drive lets you store and access these files anywhere - on the web, on your computer hard drive, or on an iPad or Android tablet.
  • Any file in Drive can be saved and shared either to another Google account user or to the world.
  • Offline features allow you to work on documents even when Internet access is not available and work automatically syncs when the devices goes back online.

Use Google Forms to create and send surveys. 

Google Forms is an incredibly useful tool that allows users to create, publish, and share customized forms that can be used for surveys, quizzes, feedback, and more. The forms are created from within Google Drive, and can be published as a standalone web page, or embedded in other webpages and emails. Responses to surveys are collected in a unique Google Sheets file.

Use Google Groups for shared email addresses.

Use Google Keep to create and store notes.

Google Keep is a note-taking tool for students, faculty, and staff. Google Keep is available on the web, and has mobile apps for the Android and iOS mobile operating systems. Keep offers a variety of ways to take notes, including text, lists, images, and audio. 

Gmail is Google’s email application.

Use Google Meet for video conferencing and online meetings.

Use Google Sheets to create, edit, and collaborate on spreadsheets.

Google Sheets is a powerful and versatile spreadsheet application. By combining Google Drive’s collaborative tools with the basic spreadsheet functionality you would expect to find in programs like Microsoft Excel, Sheets can be an incredibly useful tool in the classroom. Sheets also integrates seamlessly with other Google applications, allowing students to add graphs and charts to Docs, view and sort responses for Forms, and add data from a spreadsheet into Slides.

  • Save spreadsheets locally to work offline.

Use Google Sites to build and publish simple websites.

Use Google Slides to create, edit, and collaborate on slide presentations.

Similar in function to PowerPoint, Google Slides is a presentation application that allows users to collaboratively create and edit slide decks from within the Google environment.

  • Users can present their slideshows directly from Google Slides
  • Slides allows users to import and edit PowerPoint files.
  • Multiple users can edit one presentation at the same time.
  • Slides can be used on any device with an Internet connection.
