Helpful tips for Getting as Much of Your Deposit Back as Possible

  • Reference your condition report and security deposit agreement to take note of original damage to the house and how much of what you paid when you moved in is refundable. You are not responsible for normal wear and tear.
  • Make repairs before moving out. This is extrememly important because it is the only way that you have control over how your money is used in regards to the repairs.
  • If you did not pay a cleaning fee to your landlord, it may be worthwhile to find an affordable carpet-cleaning company to clean the carpets for you. If you did pay a cleaning fee, your Landlord will have the carpets cleaned anyway.
  • Clean all of the areas in the house. Try to leave it cleaner than it was when you moved in. Remember to clean out the refrigerator, freezer, and oven.
